Pura Vida, translating to ‘Pure Life’, is Costa Rica’s official slogan and is said by every person here to end every conversation. Pura Vida. Pure Life.
What would people in New York city say to end every conversation I wonder… “I’m F*cking stressed man, I don’t have time to deal with this sh*t”.. or something very similar I would imagine. NYC, and most US cities for this matter, remains in a constant state of tension: work hard play hard. People in Costa Rica are known as the happiest people on Earth. And they don’t all have lavish houses, Ferrari’s, and Liger’s to show their happiness.
So this is something I’m taking a lot of time to reflect on while traveling through CR. Why are people here so happy? This week traveling with my mom we got to see the beauty of the country in two different resorts. Tropical paradises, one in the jungle near a volcano, and the other next to the beach. Next week I head south to San Jose the capital, where I can get a better sense for the people’s happiness. I’ll update this article after that time…
